The mission of Camp Highlight has been to strengthen the LGBTQ community by introducing children from similar families. We’ve taken that mission further by inviting the whole family to join in for a weekend of camp antics and togetherness. Welcome to Highlight Family Camp!
For one weekend, the entire family will get a taste of what happens at Camp Highlight. For families where the child has not attended Camp Highlight, this is a great way to introduce them to the community. For families where the child is already a Highlighter, parents will finally get to see what all the fuss is about!
Alongside their children, LGBTQ parents will experience challenging camp activities such as the climbing wall and celebrated pastimes like the Talent Show. Many optional activities are offered throughout the day so families can choose to enjoy their time together or separate for different experiences. Camp Highlight staff will be on hand to facilitate the fun for children of all ages and supervise when parents are occupied.
Highlight Family Camp is a great weekend for LGBTQ families. Join us!
Highlight Family Camp takes place at South Mountain YMCA in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.
WHAT TIME IS ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE?
Families may begin arriving Friday evening anytime after 6 PM. The program ends on Monday just before lunch.
MY FAMILY HAS A COMMITMENT ON MONDAY. CAN WE LEAVE ON SUNDAY?
Highlight Family Camp is best if experienced for the whole weekend! But, of course, each family can decide how long they can attend.
CAN I BRING MY EXTENDED FAMILY?
The Highlight Family Camp experience is designed for LGBTQ caregivers and their children. This allows for the commonalities of our families to shine. While we are sure your grandparents, cousins, and close friends would enjoy the experience, we want to provide a space that is unique and special.
WHAT'S ON THE SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEKEND?
On Saturday and Sunday, there are several activities to choose from such as archery, art and crafts, hiking, dance, and more. Meals are served at set times. There is an evening activity after dinner each night. On Monday, families will join together for a closing ceremony and depart after lunch.
WHAT IS THE LODGING LIKE?
Families are housed together. If your family would rather have their own cabin, that option is available at registration.
CAN WE BRING OUR DOG?
We know that your furry friends are a part of your family. In order to make the campground a safe space for those with allergies we ask that you find other accommodations for your pets and keep them at home.
CAN MY CHILDREN DO ACTIVITIES SEPARATE FROM THE ACTIVITIES I CHOOSE?
If you children are 7 or older, families may split up to attend different activities!
WHAT ARE THE FOOD OPTIONS? DO YOU ACCOMMODATE SPECIAL DIETS AND ALLERGIES?
The campground is nut free. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free are available.
